Accessibility Statement

McAfee Institute is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all students, staff, and visitors, including people with disabilities. We recently completed a platform-wide accessibility review and have implemented improvements to image alt text, ARIA labeling, and semantic structure to better align with WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines. We continually work to improve the user experience and welcome feedback.

    Conformance Standard

McAfee Institute strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and 2.2, Level AA. These guidelines, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), define requirements for making web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.

We recognize our obligation under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to provide equal access to our educational programs, services, and digital platforms.

    Our Accessibility Approach

Our platform is designed around the four core WCAG principles:

    Perceivable

All non-decorative images include descriptive alt text. Content is presented with proper color contrast ratios and semantic structure so it can be consumed through assistive technologies.

    Operable

All interactive elements are keyboard-accessible with visible focus indicators. A skip-to-content link allows keyboard users to bypass repetitive navigation. No content relies solely on mouse interaction.

    Understandable

Pages use clear, consistent navigation patterns. Form inputs include labels and error messages. The language of each page is programmatically identified (lang="en").

    Robust

Content is built with semantic HTML5 elements and ARIA attributes where necessary. The platform is tested across modern browsers and compatible with popular screen readers.

    Current Accessibility Features

    • Semantic HTML5 landmarks (header, nav, main, footer, section, aside)
    • ARIA attributes on interactive widgets (comboboxes, progress bars, dialogs)
    • ARIA labels on all icon-only controls, including social media links and navigation buttons
    • Descriptive alt text on all meaningful images, with decorative images properly marked
    • Visible focus-visible styles on all interactive elements
    • HTML lang attribute set to "en" for screen reader language detection
    • Responsive design supporting screen magnification up to 200%
    • Color contrast ratios meeting WCAG 2.2 AA for primary text
    • Sanitized rich content to prevent injection vulnerabilities
    • Keyboard-navigable dialog, dropdown, and modal components
    • Descriptive link text (no "click here" patterns)
    • Consistent and predictable navigation across all pages
    • Skip-to-content navigation link for keyboard users in the course player
    • Closed captions and transcript display for video course content

    Ongoing Improvements

Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. Following our most recent platform-wide review, we continue to invest in the following areas:

    • Regular accessibility audits of new and existing features
    • Continuous monitoring of alt text coverage across all imagery
    • Automated accessibility testing in the development pipeline
    • Proactive review of ARIA labeling as new components are introduced
