Get started preparing for the M.I. Exam today. Whether you prefer to attend a live event, online training or study on your own, the McAfee Institute has the resources you need to prepare for the Exam. These are optional and not required to sit for the certification examination.

Schedule Proctor Session & Certification Exam

Once your application is approved you will be granted access to the examination and proctor session. We will send you instructions on how to proceed with registering for your proctored examination.

Sit for the Certification Examination 

At your scheduled proctor session, you will login to the proctor and proceed to sit for the online certification examination.

The McAfee Institute utilizes ProctorU is a live online proctoring service available 24/7 that allows students to take all McAfee Institute certification exams from anywhere using a webcam and Internet connection. This service uses live proctors who monitor exams by observing the student (via webcam) and their computer screen in real time. The biggest benefit is that it allows students to take secure exams at their convenience while maintaining the integrity of the examination process.

Certified Expert In Cyber Investigations (CECI)

Bachelor’s degree or higher plus four years of experience in e-commerce, fraud, investigations, IT, law enforcement, forensics, criminal justice, law, and loss prevention OR Associates degree plus six years of experience OR High school diploma or equivalency plus seven years of experience. 

Also, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud, or the like shall be ineligible to become a CECI®. Applicants must successfully pass the prescribed background check, which may include a criminal background check and examination process. Falsification or omission of information on the application form will be reason enough to disqualify an applicant from becoming or remaining a Certified Expert in Cyber Investigations (CECI).

Certified Workplace Violence And Threat Specialist (WVTS)

For the first time in history, The McAfee Institute brings together the industry's best to form the only board certification focused on preventing, investigating, and responding to crises and threats in the workplace & school systems. 

Bachelor’s degree or higher plus one year of experience in workplace violence, active shooter scenarios, fraud investigations or prevention, workplace investigations, criminal investigations, law enforcement, forensics, criminal justice, law, human resources, and/or loss prevention or other similar fields OR Associates degree plus two years of experience OR High school diploma or equivalency plus four years of experience or A minimum of two years’ experience as a full-time faculty member at an accredited educational institution. 

In addition, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud, or the like shall be ineligible to become or retain a WVTS®.  Applicant must provide a copy of the certified transcript of education ONLY if using a college degree rather than an experience to qualify. The applicant must successfully pass the prescribed background check, which may include a criminal background check and examination process. Falsification or omission of information on the application form will be reason enough to disqualify an applicant from becoming or remaining a Workplace Violence & Threat Specialist.

Certified Cyber Intelligence Professional (CCIP)

The McAfee Institute administers the Certified Cyber Intelligence Investigator (CCIP). This remarkable group of professionals has demonstrated their competency in the areas of cyber intelligence, investigations, prosecution, management, leadership, and industry best practice’s through an intensive qualification and testing program.

Bachelor’s degree or higher plus three years of experience in investigations, IT, fraud, law enforcement, forensics, criminal justice, law, and loss prevention OR Associates degree plus four years of experience as stated above, OR High school diploma or equivalency plus four years of experience as stated above. Also, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud, or the like shall be ineligible to become a CCIP.

The applicant must successfully pass the prescribed background check, which may include a criminal background check and examination process. Falsification or omission of information on the application form will be reason enough to disqualify an applicant from becoming or remaining a CCIP.

Certified Cyber Intelligence Investigator (CCII)

 The McAfee Institute administers the Certified Cyber Intelligence Investigator (CCII). This remarkable group of professionals has demonstrated their competency in the areas of cyber intelligence, investigations, leadership, and industry best practices.

Bachelor’s degree or higher plus one year of experience in e-commerce, fraud, investigations, IT, law enforcement, forensics, criminal justice, law, and/or loss prevention or another similar field OR Associates degree plus two years of experience OR High school diploma or equivalency plus three years of experience. Also, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud, or the like shall be ineligible to become a CCII®. 


The applicant must successfully pass the prescribed background check, which may include a criminal background check and examination process. Falsification or omission of information on the application form will be reason enough to disqualify an applicant from becoming or remaining a Certified Cyber Intelligence Investigator (CCII)

Certified Counterintelligence Threat Analyst (CCTA)

A Cyber Counterintelligence Analyst works at all levels of the federal government which include FBI, NSA, CIA, USS, DOD, and DEA. CCTA’s also work at large multi-national corporations, as well as protecting organizations from the theft of proprietary information, trade secrets, assets, merchandise, customer information, and more.

Bachelor’s degree or higher plus three years of experience in investigations, IT, fraud, law enforcement, forensics, criminal justice, law, and loss prevention OR Associates degree plus four years of experience as stated above OR High school diploma or equivalency plus four years of experience as stated above. 


Also, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud, or the like shall be ineligible to become a CCTA. The applicant must successfully pass the prescribed background check, which may include a criminal background check and examination process. Falsification or omission of information on the application form will be reason enough to disqualify an applicant from becoming or remaining a CCTA.

Certified Human Trafficking Investigator (CHTI)

The Board Certified Human Trafficking Investigator (CHTI®) designation is awarded to Human Trafficking practitioners who have proven expertise and proficiency in human trafficking investigation management, intelligence gathering, digital evidence collection, interview, and interrogation, developing reports and testimony to validate findings.

Bachelor’s degree or higher plus one year of experience in fraud, investigations, IT, law enforcement, forensics, criminal justice, law, and/or loss prevention OR Associates degree plus two years of experience as stated above OR High school diploma or equivalency plus four years of experience as stated above In addition, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud or the like shall be ineligible to become a CHTI®. 


Applicant must provide a copy of the certified transcript of education ONLY if using a college degree rather than an experience to qualify. The applicant must successfully pass the prescribed criminal background check. Falsification or omission of information on the application form will be reason enough to disqualify an applicant from becoming or remaining a Certified Human Trafficking Investigator.

Certified Organized Retail Crime Investigator (CORCI)

The Certified Organized Retail Crime Investigator (CORCI™) Board Certification is the industry’s leading certification that focuses on the identification, investigation, and prosecution of Organized Retail Crime.

Bachelor’s degree or higher plus one year of experience in organized retail crime, eCommerce, fraud, investigations, IT, law enforcement, forensics, criminal justice, law, and/or loss prevention or other similar fields OR Associates degree plus two years of experience OR High school diploma or equivalency plus four years of experience or a minimum of two years experience as a full-time faculty member at an accredited educational institution.


In addition, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud, or the like shall be ineligible to become a CORCI™. The applicant must successfully pass the prescribed background check, which may include a criminal background check and examination process. Falsification or omission of information on the application form will be reason enough to disqualify an applicant from becoming or remaining a Certified Organized Retail Crime Investigator (CORCI).

Certified Professional Criminal Investigator (CPCI)

The Certified Professional Criminal Investigator (CPCI) program is the industry's premier board certification focused on criminal investigations.

Bachelor’s degree or higher plus two years of experience in law enforcement or investigative work OR Associates degree plus three years of experience as stated above OR High school diploma or equivalency plus four years of experience as stated above.


Also, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud, or the like shall be ineligible to become a CPCI™. The applicant must successfully pass the prescribed background check, which may include a criminal background check and examination process. Falsification or omission of information on the application form will be reason enough to disqualify an applicant from becoming or remaining a CPCI.

Certified Social Media Intelligence Expert (CSMIE)

The McAfee Institute administers the Certified Social Media Intelligence Expert (CSMIE). This remarkable group of professionals has demonstrated their competency in the areas of social media intelligence (SOCMIT) cyber intelligence, investigations, prosecution, management, leadership, and industry best practice’s through an intensive qualification and testing program.

Bachelor’s degree or higher plus four years of experience in e-commerce, fraud, investigations, IT, law enforcement, forensics, criminal justice, law, and loss prevention Or Associates degree plus six years of experience OR High school diploma or equivalency plus seven years of experience. Also, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud, or the like shall be ineligible to become a CSMIE®.

Certified Cryptocurrency Forensic Investigator (CCFI)

For the first time in history, This Certified Cryptocurrency Forensic Investigator (CCFI) is the first and ONLY professional board certification program focused on cryptocurrency investigations throughout the entire world.

Bachelor’s degree or higher plus four years of experience in e-commerce, fraud, investigations, Intelligence, military, cybersecurity, law enforcement, forensics, computer/digital forensics, criminal justice or law OR Associates degree plus six years of experience OR High school diploma or equivalency plus seven years of experience Also, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud or the like shall be ineligible to become a CCFI®.

Certified Digital Currency Investigator (CDCI)

For the first time in history, This Certified Digital Currency Investigator (CCFI) is the first and ONLY professional board certification program focused on digital currency investigations throughout the entire world.

Bachelor’s degree or higher plus four years of experience in e-commerce, fraud, investigations, Intelligence, military, cybersecurity, law enforcement, forensics, computer/digital forensics, criminal justice or law OR Associates degree plus six years of experience OR High school diploma or equivalency plus seven years of experience Also, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud or the like shall be ineligible to become a CDCI®.

Certified In Open Source Intelligence (C|OSINT)

 The C|OSINT is the leading industry certification for cyber investigators in law enforcement, intelligence, loss prevention, private investigation, and fraud.

Eligibility Requirements Bachelor’s degree or higher (no experience is needed) OR Associates degree plus 2 YEARS of professional work experience in e-commerce, fraud, investigations, IT, law enforcement, forensics, criminal justice, law, and loss prevention OR High school diploma or equivalency plus 3 YEARS of professional work experience as stated above. 


Also, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud or the like shall be ineligible to become a C|OSINT. The applicant must successfully pass the prescribed background check, which may include a criminal background check and examination process. Falsification or omission of information on the application form will be reason enough to disqualify an applicant from becoming or remaining Certified in Open Source Intelligence.

Certified All Source Intelligence Professional (CASIP)

The McAfee Institute's Certified All-Source Intelligence Professional (CASIP) Program is the industry's only real-world training on all-source intelligence available outside of the DOD.


Bachelor’s degree or higher (no experience is needed) OR Associates degree plus 2 YEARS of professional work experience in e-commerce, fraud, investigations, IT, law enforcement, forensics, criminal justice, law, and loss prevention OR High school diploma or equivalency plus 3 YEARS of professional work experience as stated above. 

Also, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud, or the like shall be ineligible to become a CASIP. The applicant must successfully pass the prescribed background check, which may include a criminal background check and examination process. Falsification or omission of information on the application form will be reason enough to disqualify an applicant from becoming or remaining Certified All Source Intelligence Professional (CASIP).

Certified Criminal Profiler (CCP)

A Certified Criminal Profiler (CCP)® are the industry’s Most Renowned Criminal Profilers that are trained in advanced and state of the art methodologies on criminal and racial profiling.

Bachelor’s degree or higher and four years of experience in investigations, fraud, law enforcement, forensics, criminal justice, law, loss prevention or - Associates degree plus five years of experience (as stated above) or - High school diploma or GED plus six years of experience (as stated above).


Also, a person convicted of a felony, any crime of moral turpitude or misdemeanor relating to honesty, theft, embezzlement, fraud, or the like shall be ineligible to become a CCP®. The applicant must successfully pass the prescribed background check, which may include a criminal background check and examination process. Falsification or omission of information on the application form will be reason enough to disqualify an applicant from becoming or remaining a Certified Criminal Profiler (CCP).
