Joshua McAfee is the CEO and Founder of McAfee Institute. He is a member of M.I. Governing Board, Senior Editor, and Publisher for the Cybercrime Insider as well Private Investigation Magazine and is a member of the International Law Enforcement Educators Trainers Association (ILEETA).

Since starting his career in law enforcement in 1999, Josh has conducted thousands of investigations and interview/interrogations that where successfully charged and prosecuted in the areas Cybercrime, Employee Theft, Human Trafficking, Organized Crime, Fraud, Embezzlement, Sexual Harassment, Workplace Violence, Narcotics, Gangs amongst others both in the public and private sectors. He has also trained over 100,000 law enforcement, intelligence, and investigative professionals from various private and public sectors such as the FBI, ATF, DHS DOD, SOCOM, Intel etc. from around the world.

Josh began his career with Peoria County PD. After several years, he moved over into the loss prevention sector quickly moving his way up from a Store Detective to VP of Loss Prevention & Cyber were he was tasked with developing the world’s first global cyber loss prevention department. Josh partnered with Law Enforcement agencies and government agencies around the world in an effort to learn how to identify, investigate and prosecute instances of cyber crimes making him the most sought-after expert on the subject within the industry.

Josh’s learnings have helped to developed countless cyber investigative and intelligence units around the world. He literally has built the bridge as they walked on it and was effective at solving some of the most complex cyber-crimes to exist.

Josh is an internationally recognized speaker on investigations, intelligence & deception detection. He has spoken at numerous national and international conferences including various chapters of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), Certified Forensic Interviewers, Midwest Financial Network (MFIN), Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), Food Marketing Institute (FMI), Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) amongst others.

Josh plays an integral role in the research, development, and instruction on fifteen board certification programs, over 100 online courses, and has published seventeen books on the topics of investigations, intelligence, deception detection, cybercrime investigations, OSINT, SOCMINT and more that are utilized by law enforcement, intelligence and investigative professionals around the world.

Josh graduated from Colorado Technical Institute with a Master’s in Criminal Justice and is currently pursuing his Psy.D in Deception Detection at the Chicago School of Psychology. He currently resides with his family in the St Louis area.
