Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020, adds new requirements for educational institutions participating in the educational assistance programs of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). 

These new provisions became effective June 15, 2021, and will apply to Institutions of Higher Learning and Non-College Degree institutions beginning August 1, 2021. 

Many of the requirements are consistent with the requirements of the Principles of Excellence, currently in Executive Order 13607; however, there are requirements in addition to those embodied in the Principles of Excellence which schools must also satisfy to maintain approval for GI Bill® participation. 

 Schools must provide a covered individual (a student using benefits under chapter 30, 31, 32, 33, or 35 of title 38, U.S.C., or chapter 1606 of title 10, U.S.C.) with a personalized shopping sheet that contains:

Transcripts should be sent to the McAfee Institute Admissions Office. Veterans must also submit a military transcript and DD Form 214 (Member 4 or Service 2 version). The military transcript is either the Joint Services Transcript (Army/Navy/Marines/Coast Guard) or Community College of the Air Force Transcript (Air Force only). Joint Service Transcripts will be subject to an initial evaluation in which any military course that has been deemed as a direct equivalence AND directly pertains to the student’s specific degree will be awarded. Awarded credit cannot be removed once applied. All other completed military courses on the Joint Service Transcript that do not pertain to the student’s specific program of study will not be awarded. Inform an enrolled covered individual of the availability of federal financial aid, not administered by VA that is offered by the institution

Alert the individual of the potential eligibility for other federal financial aid before packaging or arranging student loans or alternative financing.

The McAfee Institute does not offer financial aid.

Prohibit automatic renewal of a covered individual in a course and/or programs.

All veteran students must complete a Veteran Affairs Certification Form located at https://mcafeeinstitute.typeform.com/to/BsFEMY

Ensure each covered individual approves of the enrollment in a course.

All student using military benefits and must be advised prior to enrolling into courses. The student can contact military advising at admissions@mcafeeinstitute.com or visit us at https://www.mcafeeinstitute.com/pages/veterans-education-benefits

Allow enrolled members of the Armed Forces, including reserve components and National Guard to be readmitted if such members are temporarily unavailable or must suspend enrollment by reason of serving in the Armed Forces.

If a student gets called to active duty military service, their course can be placed on hold. We will allow the student to have the remainder of what time is left on their course when they are no longer in an active duty status. It is the responsibility of the student to inform McAfee Institute of their active duty status by calling: 888-263-1650, or by writing to: support@mcafeeinstitute.com. McAfee Institute will notify VA of the status change, and McAfee Institute could recertify for the remainder of the program upon return.

Accommodate short absences for such services in the Armed Forces.

All students at the time of advisement, receive a course curriculum with all courses listed and the time it takes to complete. 

Accredited educational institutions agree to obtain approval of the respective accrediting agency for each new course or program

The McAfee Institute complies with the Missouri Department of Education for Proprietary Schools and submits all new programs for approval.
