My Sit Down With Cyber Expert Robert Myers
This morning I had a chance to sit down and talk with cyber expert Robert Myers. Robert is the Cyber-crime Technology Program Head at Stanley Community College in Stanley, N.C. I had a chance to ask him a few questions for the Q&A section of this weeks newsletter and the following is what was revealed.
Question 1: Robert, what started your journey into the cyber field?
Well Bill, my family owned an in-home health care company for which I did the I.T. portion, so I was always into the computer field. However, I started taking courses in security and eventually took my first cyber forensics course and I loved it. So I decided to take a career path that was geared toward the cyber-crime and forensics field.
Question 2: What degrees do you hold?
Well, hmmm…. I have 7 associates degrees which include: marketing, security, basic criminal justice, 2 cyber degrees, and a couple of others. I also have my Bachelors in Criminal Justice as well as numerous certifications.
Question 3: Robert, what advice do you have for newcomers into the field?
Bill, the one thing that I tell all of my students is to “get all the training you can get and don’t be afraid to ask questions.”
Question 4: How long have you been instructing?
Well, I started doing community seminars in the mid ’90s. I would give seminars to the public regarding personal information security on the internet. I started teaching at Stanley Community in March of 2010.
Robert, it was great talking with you.
Question 5: What is the best part of being in this field of study?
I am passionate about teaching others to get where they want to be or where they need to be to succeed in this field.
